Our films and resources will now be available for FREE from our Unchosen shop on our website. We hope that this will encourage all our friends and partners to use them in their training and awareness-raising work across the UK and beyond. Do talk to us if you’d like to embed our films on your website.

An Announcement from Unchosen

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Unchosen, the national charity which uses the power of short film to fight modern slavery in the UK.

We’ve used this landmark as an opportunity to think about our future as an organisation. We’ve been heartened to note the many anti-slavery organisations that have sprung up in the past ten years, and the consolidation of a strong anti-slavery sector committed to raising awareness of all forms of labour exploitation across the UK, and to protecting the rights of survivors of modern slavery. We’re also excited that many charities have begun to take up our clarion call to use short film to tell people about modern slavery in the UK.

However, we’re aware that potential funding for all anti-slavery organisations is extremely stretched, making it very difficult for many charities to give adequate to support to potential victims and survivors.

With all of this in mind, the Unchosen Board of Trustees have taken the decision to close Unchosen. We will be closing the Unchosen office in Bristol at the end of April, and the charity at the end of September 2018.

This has been a difficult decision for an organisation that has delivered some very successful and innovative anti-slavery projects in the last few years, and which continues to believe in the power of film to fight modern slavery.

However this is not the end.
We’ve given a lot of thought to the way we share our films and resources with frontline workers, charities, and those working with vulnerable groups in the future. We’ve decided to hand our resources over to a new partner, Encounters Short Film Festival. Encounters is the UK’s leading short film festival, bringing you the best in international short film, animation, and virtual reality.

As experts in short film and finding new film talent, Encounters are extremely excited about hosting our films on their website and running our prestigious Modern Slavery Short Film Competition. They’ll be supported by a panel of colleagues from across the anti-slavery sector, who will ensure that our films are still at the heart of awareness-raising across the UK. We look forward to sharing more details about this with you soon.
